Bouyer, industry leaders spell strategies to end energy poverty, boost production in Africa at SAIPEC

The Managing Director, Mr Matthieu Bouyer, has shed light on the company's strategies to decarbonize and end energy poverty in Nigeria and the African continent.

Mr Bouyer spoke at the Executive Summit of the Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC), 2024, held Tuesday, 13 February at the Eko hotel Victoria Island Lagos.

He disclosed that TotalEnergies EP Nigeria limited has become the first exploration company in the country to stop gas flaring in its operations. The session was on Driving Africa's Energy - with a focus on how African countries are evolving to remain competitive in an ever-changing competitive upstream market.

He explained that TotalEnergies has leveraged a full suite of technologies to develop gas and assist partners decarbonize, noting the company's mantra of "more energies less emissions.'

"We're producing a lot of gas onshore and offshore to supply the NLNG and the domestic market," Bouyer said noting gas was one the major legs of developments in Nigeria.

Fielding questions at the end of the session, he underscored the company's commitment to Nigeria, explaining that TotalEnergies has a large footprint in oil and gas production and had lined up a portfolio of investment in the country to the tune of $6 billion. He further explained that the company was working actively with the Nigerian authorities to ensure the right environment for unlocking all the projects.

The MD also observed that the fastest way to increase supply to the NLNG was to secure the environment for the supply. He assured that TotalEnergies was continuing to develop projects that could feed the NLNG in coming years and decades.

1. How the IOCs are utilizing the latest technologies to decarbonize, whilst driving supply to meet Africa's growing demand and strategies implemented to end energy poverty
2. How are they continuing to drive investments towards a sustainable and secure energy future for Arica?
3. Exploring smart service solutions in driving cleaner E&P.
