Total Hosts African Women Basketball Champions

Nigeria's national women basketball team, D'Tigress and winners of the 2019 FIBA women Afrobasket tournament, were hosted by Total on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 following their victory at the tourney held in Darkar Senegal.

D'Tigress on Sunday August 18, 2019 defeated host Senegal 60-55 in the final to win their fourth continental title having previously won in 2003, 2005 and 2017.

 

Receiving the team on behalf of the company, the Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water District Ahmadu-Kida Musa who doubles as the president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation congratulated the team on the victory and urged them to sustain the winning spirit.

 

He praised the team's tenacity throughout the competition especially their doggedness in overcoming the odds to beat the host team Senegal in the final. Mr Musa, supported by some senior management staff and members of Total Women in Communication and Exchange (TWICE) gave the team an overview of Total and its operations in Nigeria adding that Total was a diverse  company and a proud supporter of sports and sporting activities in Nigeria.

The Chief Financial Officer, Tai Oshiisanya welcomed the team on behalf of the company saying Total was proud to celebrate with the victorious team.

 

In his remarks, the Executive Director Corporate Affairs & Services, Abiodun Afolabi said with their achievement the team had become an inspiration to younger girls who looked up to them. He thanked them for devoting their young lives to make the nation proud. "You have done well and we are very proud of what you have achieved," he said to the team.

 

The team captain, Adaora Elonu in her response thanked Total for the warm reception and attributed their victory to the seamless team bonding and dedication of the girls. She pledged on behalf of the team to continue to work hard to make the nation proud.
